Sinclair 100lt coarse vermiculite laminar structure provides excellent cation exchange properties, helping compost hold on to soluble nutrients. Also ideal as a top dressing for seed sowing. Fine grade aids water management of peat-based growing media. Coarse grade provides higher aeration levels. What is vermiculite Vermiculite, a hydrous phyllosilicate mineral, undergoes significant expansion when heated. Exfoliation occurs when the mineral is heated sufficiently, and commercial furnaces can routinely produce this effect. Vermiculite forms by the weathering or hydrothermal alteration of biotite or phlogopite. How to use Vermiculite. Use 1/3 to 1/2 vermiculite in your potting soil for containers or when building your raised beds, or improve your garden soil by adding it in the spring with your other soil amendments and compost.
