Why is Garden Lime important?
How acidic or alkali your soil is can have a great impact on how well your plants absorb nutrients. Garden Lime can be a great solution when your soil is just too acidic. But how do you know when that is?
Luckily a simple pH test can indicate just how much (or little) acid is in your soil. DIY test kits are easily found, with the start of the new season being the best time to test.
SOIL TYPES
If you can remember your high school chemistry lessons then pH is measured on a scale from 0 – 14 with 7 being neutral. Anything lower than 7 is considered acidic, with 0 being the most. Transversely any reading over 7 is evidence that alkali is present.
If your soil is acidic then adding garden lime can greatly improve its condition and thus increase the amount of nutrients absorbed by your plants. Easily spread, garden lime is a must have for all garden enthusiasts.
