Melcourt Sylvagrow Multipurpose Compost
A unique blend of fine bark, wood fibre (bi-products of sustainably managed British forests) and coir (from a single, known source). It contains balanced nutrients sufficient for the first 4-6 weeks of growth. This growing medium is widely used throughout the UK by professional growers and is suitable for a wide range of uses around the garden. Melcourt SylvaGrow contains no peat or green waste compost. Sustainable plant growth medium for gardeners who are as passionate about the environment as their gardens.
These seed trays can be reused if handled with care. Formed from 75 mm thick recycled high impact polystyrene. The two level drainage allows for over-head or sub-irrigation systems.
4? robust white plastic British made plant labels. Perfect for marking seed trays, pots or attaching to young plants.
What Is the Right Composition of Seed Compost?
Our Seeding Compost Kit is suitable for every garden and is designed to maximise seedling growth, and give young plants the best start, developing healthy roots, aiding germination, and acting as a universally beneficial and environmentally friendly growing medium.
We use a blend of propagating bark and coir, which are sustainably sourced from the UK, and ensure that new seeds have excellent drainage to prevent root decay while ensuring moisture retention at the optimal level to deliver important nutrients to help flowers, vegetables, seedlings and young plants flourish.
Seed composts are created to provide balanced growing conditions and ensure seedlings do not receive too much or too little nutrition.
Why Use a Specialist Seed Sowing Compost?
Many growers may assume that any compost is fine for sowing seeds, but standard compost is normally too coarse and richer in nutrients that are damaging to seeds. Seed compost soil is much finer and has a light compost texture, which helps with healthy root growth to push down into the compost to extract minerals and water.
We also recommend seeding pots, as larger pots cannot contain moisture and nutrition within the smaller root diameter and may mean that healthy seedlings cannot grow or develop into smaller, less healthy plants.
Gardeners should store their seed compost in a dry space and seal the compost bag to retain moisture and prevent pests from impacting the soil conditions.
What Are the Environmental Benefits of Peat-Free Seed Compost?
AK Kin’s Seeding Compost Kit is 100% peat free, which supports natural biodiverse garden environments and can be used in organic gardens as a growing medium.
Peat is a conventional compost component because it is highly fertile, but it is a non-renewable resource. Our mix of bark and coir provides sufficient aeration, and gardeners can also add sharp sand to their seed compost if they need additional drainage.
