Garden Applications for Melcourt SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose Peat-Free Compost
While SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose isn’t designed for ericaceous plants, it can be used for raising lime-hating species as a growing medium for planting out, mixed at around a 1:4 ratio with a good acidic soil so as not to impede seedling development.
This versatile compost, with a perfect blend of fine
bark from British forests and coir, is great for seed sowing and can supplement garden soil by introducing a carefully selected range of balanced nutrients ideal for young plants and potting.
Below we run through some instructions to explain how to use SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose as a planting medium.
Sowing Seeds With Peat-Free Compost
The first step is to fill your
seed tray evenly with SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose and water lightly before sowing your seeds carefully and covering them with more compost to about the same height as a suitable
pot. Seeds will grow optimally in a deep seed tray kept in a warm space away from direct sun and with a cover to help the soil retain moisture while the seeds germinate.
Planting Out With SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose
For planting out shrubs, roses and bedding plants, mix the growing medium with back-filled soil at one to four parts, ensuring you soak roots for around half an hour beforehand. Mixing the soil and compost thoroughly helps to introduce the balanced nutrients sufficient to aid root growth.
